The Journey Begins

Motel near IA/NE border
Nebraska = Good Prime Rib
Day 1 included a 5/6 hour drive to Onawa, Iowa and Decatur, Nebraska for our first stop, a wedding. Summer's from Alissa got married. The rehearsal dinner was at a house on the way, with the Huskers game playing. The Huskers kicked ass a bit too much so we left before the ending and headed to the nearest hotel - Onawa - Super 8. A bonus was the gas station nearby had Mr Pipp 20oz bogo's ;). Day 2 - The ceremony was on a picturesque farm, the reception at a steakhouse down the road. The steakhouse had some interesting beverages, so with cocktail hour - I started a tasting. The selection included:

A delicious first drink. I've had a glass of this on the rocks previously and liked it, this glass was good as well.

Good ol' Glen. The scotch my friend first started with and introduced me to. With a history like that, I had to try a glass as well.

A friend's current drink is Makers and Ginger. I learned Ginger "beer" and this would make a great cocktail. I thought I'd try ginger ale in substitute, however, I think their "ginger ale" was lemonade and sprite. Nonetheless it was still good, however, since it wasn't authentic ginger ale or ginger "beer" in retrospect I should have just tried it on the rocks...This may be a bottle I buy to start my "on the rocks" Austin home bar collection.

Now mind you, I was three drinks in on this tasting. Plus all the beers on the farm were in my system. However, this was a delicious, smooth on the rocks drink. The bottle had me thinking it may be more expensive, but finding the pic online, I discovered its priced only a bit more the Glenlivet. I recommend this and all 3 of the scotch/whiskey's above.

Not pictured or tasted is one of my fav's Johhny Black, however they only had Red and in the company of these other great liquors, I had to skip that entry level drink.

In closing our Decatur stop was fun. It also included some four-wheel touring. Living out of a Super 8 for two days was quite interesting. The bonus was having a Jeep Liberty full of select items of ours, which included wine glasses. No throw away cups for this couple - super 8 style.
